LA SAGA BULTACO

Description
Founded in 1959 by Don Paco Bulto, an engineer by training who had transferred from Montesa, the brand was named BULTACO by compressing the syllables of his first and last names. Paco Bulto made competition his credo. “It's only through competition that you can progress”, he used to say. As early as 1960, his first La Tralla motorcycle beat the world one-hour record on the Montlhéry oval, in the hands of Ricardo Quintanilla and Georges Monneret. The brand was present in all disciplines: touring, track, motocross, enduro and trials, with displacements ranging from 80cc to 360cc. Don Paco attached great value to symbolism and commemoration, which is why a gold fillet on a tank evoked the gold medals won at the ISDT (International Six Days Trial). The bikes were christened with names evocative of power and speed: Tralla (whip), la Metralla (machine gun), Matador (bullfighting symbol), Sherpa (climbing zones), Pursang (fast, 100% Catalan horse), or Frontera (across borders). The thumbs-up brand was exported all over Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia... over two decades from 1962 to 1982.
With the arrival of Japanese motorcycles, the brand came to an end. In trials, Bultaco was 5-time world champion with Irjo Vesterinen, Martin Lampkin and Bernie Screiber, and multiple French champion with Charles Coutard. In motocross, Serge Bacou was 6 times French champion and Ignacio Bulto, Don Paco's son, won multiple titles in Spain. Added to these achievements are multiple ISDT gold medals and several victories at the 6 Days of Trials in Scotland.
